Going to the cinema is, no doubt one of people’s favourite leisure activities. New Cross and Deptford Free Film Festival, offers the people to get out, have fun and watch an amazing film for free.

The first free film festival took place back in 2010, in Peckham and Nunhead, in South East London. The festivals are organized mainly by volunteers and the idea behind it is to bring people together to enjoy a nice selections of movies, some of which they might have never seen before.


Nadishani Brorrson, who previously lived in the are said:” I moved out of this area last summer, but I won’t miss this festival. It’s a great opportunity for people to get closer to the nature and each other and enjoy a nice film.”


The Free Film Festivals have a great aim behind the idea. The Festival is not only made to entertain people, it is way more. It aims to create opportunities for local filmmakers and their work. It also tries to encourage its volunteers to gain new skills, in new areas. Moreover it aims to strengthen local communities, by getting them together in their outside areas.



Kiara Santana, who visits the festival for the first year this year said, she enjoyed in, even though, she didn’t know the movie projected. “ I came mostly for the experience. It was a delightful night and I had a great time,” she said.


The Free Film Festival in New Cross and Deptford is going to take place in different locations across the area. Information about the movies can be find on the website of the festival.

The projections in New Cross and Deptford area will continue until 5th of May, as the last movie to be seen will be Pride.


The festival is then going to continue, with projections set in Herne Hill area, the last of which will take place on 1st of June with the movies - Angora Love and You’re Darn Tootin’, by Laurel & Hardy.
